I didn't know if that meant a #2 pencil, carpenters pencil or what. I have a 1966 396 casting #3855961 2 bolt block. They are the 427 pistons, no need for special rods or cutting pistons. 454 uses the same bore as a 427. If you have the block bored you will need to upsize your piston to your bore. There was always the old trick about a #2 pencil fitting between the bores inside the water jacket when talking about which 396's can be bored to 454 size. If the pencil fits between the bores,the block is too thin,if you cant fit it,the block should take the bore.

I think very similar to a 327, which was ideal. 350 SBC used the same length rods as a 327. To fix a 350 ya' need to put 6" rods in it to make it more like a 327. And a 454 could use longer rods to make it more like a 427.

Your cylinders will most likely not have the reliefs in them to clear the crank counter weights as the 3.76" crank clears without them.
